Although the contractors shut down for their Christmas break, things have swung back into action in the New Year. The site huts are in place and the site is well secured with its own entrance. Timber fencing has been placed around the site with viewing panels which mean the children can watch the progress of our new school under construction.
All the main drainage is now completed and the site has been stripped of all its top soil and the foundations dug and filled with over 60 cubic metres of concrete. Erection of the steel framework should begin in February and the constructions of the walls are being prefabricated in a factory in the north of England ready to be delivered later in the year.
Our facilities manager Paul is keeping a photographic record of the construction process so we can review it when the school is completed.
The main contractor is building another school, Arundel Court Primary Academy in Portsmouth using a similar construction method. Work started on this school this month so our building will be ready and open first all going well. Both schools have two phases with the phase one seeing the completion of the new school and phase two being the demolition of the old one.
Anyone wishing to see plans of the new school please visit the reception area where plans and elevations are on permanent view.
