The unit will begin with the children learning about how we hear sounds and how we can change volume and pitch. Using this understanding, they will design their own products to block out sounds. The children will then study light and identify different light sources. They will discover how shadows are formed when an opaque object blocks the light from a light source. The children will also learn about the dangers of the sun and investigate how to protect their eyes.
To complete their science work, Year 3 will plan and conduct a shadow investigation based on their own questions.
Following this, the children will look at Arabic designs. They will learn about different ways to apply patterns and designs to fabric. Using these skills, they will plan, design and print their own t-shirt.
To finish the topic, the children will be putting on their own production. They will be writing their own scripts for this and designing their own sets. They will also apply their learning in science to produce a lighting plan. The children will be picking the music for this exciting event and also wearing their own personally designed t-shirts.
