Year 1 and 2 Autumn Term 2018

All About Me

This term, the children arrived back at school with their ‘All About Me’ baskets.

They will now spend time showing the class the items inside and talking about why they are special to them. In Literacy, the children will be creating a book all about themselves. It will include information writing about their homes, families and their likes and dislikes. Once completed, the books will be bound and published and shared with their friends and parents.

In Art, the children will be looking closely at their key features and creating self-portraits. These masterpieces will then be displayed within their classrooms to ensure the children feel valued and safe within their new environments. Children will also look at the work of artists such as Yinka Shonibare and Arnulf Rainer to form an opinion on other peoples’ art work.

In Personal, Social and Health Education, the children will be exploring the similarities and differences between themselves and others. They will be learning that it is ok to like different things to others and they will be comparing their range of likes and dislikes within their class. They will also explore different families and learn to celebrate diversity.

In Science, the children will be learning about how to keep their bodies healthy and experiencing healthy food, exercise and hygiene routines. This will include cleaning their teeth every day to promote healthy teeth and gums.

Reading:

Remember to read at least 3 times a week and bring your reading record into school everyday for it to be checked.  If you bring your book bag into school every day, this will help you remember your reading record and help your class win Horace!

P.E:

All P.E kits are to be hung on your peg and remain in school throughout the term.

Year 1     Wednesday and Thursday

Year 2     Monday and Friday

Snack:

The children will receive free fruit every day during morning break time.  There is usually a range of different fruit available for the children to choose from.

Dinner:

The children are entitled to a free school dinner every day.  They have three different options to choose from, along with a dessert and a salad bar that is available daily.  A copy of the menu is available from the school office.  If your child does prefer a packed lunch, they are able to bring this instead.

How can you help your child?

  • Reassure your child - Key Stage One is fun and everything will be ok.
  • Support your child with their homework.  They will receive regular homework and may need help to begin with.  Each child will be given a reading record and these need to be in school every day.
  • Talk to us.  Please let us know straight away if there is anything we need to know.
  • Work with us.  If you have any problems or worries speak to your child's class teacher or Mrs Hogan, and we will try our best to sort these out for you.  Only by working together can we ensure your child achieves their very best.
