Years 6 Summer 2 Term 2019
During the topic ‘Going for Goals’, the children will become mini-entrepreneurs when they are given the opportunity to decide, plan and organise how they would like to spend their remaining time at Beacon View.
The children will start their topic by identifying places they would like to visit for a final school trip. They will use their research skills to assess how affordable and suitable the trip would be and then write a letter to persuade the Year 6 staff to choose their idea.
Once an idea has been chosen, the children will need to work collaboratively to decide how they will raise the money to fund this amazing experience. Year 6 will then use their Design and Technology skills to create things to sell to parents and other pupils. Alongside this, they will need to organise, request and manage a budget. The children will also need to think of other ways to raise money and then promote these through assemblies and letters to parents.
Once the money has been raised, the children will turn their attention to leaving a legacy behind for staff and children to remember them by – this will be in the form of a cl
ay tile display which will be displayed in the new school building.
In literacy, Year 6 will be studying the book ‘Wonder’ by R.J Palacio. They will be doing various different writing activities such as: writing a balanced argument, a narrative, a diary and formal and informal letters. They will also do an in-depth study of the characters, helping them to develop empathy.
This half term will be full-on but definitely a lot of fun for the children when they achieve their goal!
