Design & Technology

As designers and engineers, children at Beacon View Primary Academy are provided with a wide range of practical tools that will help them to bring their ideas to life in fun and creative ways. They will be able to design, produce and evaluate their work using different equipment and materials in the full range of DT areas. These include food, textiles, structures, mechanical systems and electrical systems. They will be able to supply skills from other areas of the curriculum such as maths and science and understand the use of these skills.

They will have the confidence to have a go at something new and learn the errors are not a negative thing but a vital step in the design process. This helps to build upon one of our school values, resilience.

They will learn that they have the capability to make positive changes to their own lives and those of people around them. They can achieve this through understanding and following the principles of the 5RS (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Refuse, Repurpose) and making healthy food choices.
