Physical Education

At Beacon View Primary Academy, we aim to develop pupils who recognise the value of being physically active and how it contributes to the mental health and physical well-being.

The aims of our PE curriculum are to develop pupils who:

  • Can demonstrate attributes of being team players, show respect, fairness and encourage others, realising the need to work collaboratively to achieve success
  • Are willing to practise skills in a range of different activities and situations, alone, in small groups and in teams, and to apply these skills in chosen activities to achieve exceptionally high levels of performance
  • Employ their own imaginations and creativity in techniques, tactics and choreography
  • Can show resilience when facing a barrier in sport and use strategies to overcome this
  • Have a keen interest in PE - a willingness to participate eagerly in every lesson, highly positive attitudes and the ability to make informed choices about engaging fully in extracurricular activities
  • To use initiative and become excellent young leaders, organising and officiating, and evaluating what needs to be done to improve, and motivating and instilling excellent sporting attitudes in others
  • Can swim at least 25 metres before the end of year six and know how to remain safe in and around water

As a school we use the PE planning curriculum I'm within it the three vertical concepts:

  • Fit to perform
  • Fit to lead
  • Fit for life

These skills are taught through a wide range of activities.

Ideas for being physically active at home:

Go Noodle

Just Dance

Cosmic Kids Yoga

Our taught PE curriculum is further supported by a full range of extracurricular activities, these include both individual and team sports.

We are currently looking to employ a coach through Greenhouse Sports who will support and further enhance our PE offer, both in lesson and through additional opportunities, supporting the development of Table Tennis across our Portsmouth cluster.
